12th Goshir Gyaltsab Rinpoche

The present Goshir Gyaltsap Rinpoche Dragpa Tenpe Yaphal was born 1954 in Tibet, near Lhasa. He was recognized by the 16th Karmapa even before he was born. Shortly after his recognition he fled Tibet together with His Holiness the 16th Karmapa into exile.

In 1959, Gyaltsab Rinpoche made a journey to Sikkim with Karmapa where he later settled. He received all important initiations and transmissions from the Karmapa and studied the Mahayana and Vajrayana teachings of the lineage together with the other lineage holders, their Eminences Shamar Rinpoche, Tai Situ Rinpoche and Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche.

 

In 1992, along with Tai Situ Rinpoche, he enthroned the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Urgyen Trinley Dorje at Tsurphu, Tibet, the main seat of the Karmapas.
At the moment Rinpoche lives in Sikkim where he oversees Rumtek, the main monastery of the Karma Kagyu outside Tibet, as well as his own monastery Ralang in Sikkim.
He is one of the main teachers of His Holiness the Karmapa and already has bestowed important transmissions to His Holiness.
