Kagyu Teachers - Yangsi Kalu Rinpoche

3rd Yangsi Kalu Rinpoche

H.E. Kalu Rinpoche was born 1990 in Sonada, India. In 1992, Tai Situ Rinpoche officially recognized Kalu Rinpoche. H.H. the Dalai Lama was then consulted and confirmed that the child was surely and unmistakably the reincarnation of Kalu Rinpoche.

Kalu Rinpoche was invited in July of 1992, to visit the Buddhist meditation centers founded in France by his previous incarnation. In December of 1992, he made his first pilgrimage to Bodhgaya, India, the birthplace of Shakyamuni Buddha to attend the Kagyu Monlam. His Parents took him to Tibet when he was 3 years old to meet H.H. the 17th Karmapa.

 

1993, Kalu Rinpoche was enthroned at Samdrup Darjay Choling Monastery in Sonada, India. Tai Situ Rinpoche and Gyaltsap Rinpoche presided over the ceremony, assisted by Bokar Rinpoche. Tai Situ Rinpoche bestowed on the young incarnation the name Karma Ngedon Tenpay Gyaltsen.
1995, Kalu Rinpoche made his first worldwide tour accompanied by his parents and the Venerable Bokar Rinpoche.
Kalu Rinpoche received the complete Empowerments of the Shangpa Kaygu Lineage from the Venerable Bokar Rinpoche. Thereafter at the age of fifteen he entered into the traditional Shangpa Kagyu Retreat at Bokar Monastery under the guidance of Khenpo Lodro Donyo which he completed in 2008.
