3rd Tenga Rinpoche

Tenga Rinpoche was born in 1932, in Tibet. He was found at the age of 7 by H.E. Situ Rinpoche who prophesized the name of his parents, the birthdate and birthplace. Thereupon he began his studies at Benchen monastery in Tibet and received refuge and the name Karma Tenzin Thinle Namgyal from H.E. Situ Rinpoche.

At the age of 19 he received full ordination vows. He studied the Buddhist tantric rituals, philosophy and Tibetan Medicine under the guidance of Buddhist masters like H.E. Situ Rinpoche, H.E. Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche and Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche and completed the studies with a three-year retreat.

 

In 1959, due to the Chinese invasion, he left Tibet and went to Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim, India where he lived for 17 years. For 9 years Tenga Rinpoche acted as Dorje Lobpon of Rumtek Monastery. In 1974 he accompanied H.H. Karmapa on his first tour to America and Europe.
Since 1976, Tenga Rinpoche lives in Swayambhu, Nepal, where he founded Benchen Phuntsok Dargyeling Monastery and a retreat centre in Pharping. Since 1978, he travels to Europe extensively.
Tenga Rinpoche was one of the few living meditation masters who hold the still unbroken lineage of the Karma Kagyu Tradition. He was the founder of Karma Kamtsang Association in Poland, Karma Thegsum Ling, Verona, Italy and Lotus Trust as well as Lotus Direkthilfe in Germany.
Tenga Rinpoche passed away in 2012.
